Are you crazy thinking about afterschool activities for your child?
Here some tips and ideas 😎
– Find out the PROGRAMS OFFERED by your child’s school and also those offered by other community-based organizations that provide afterschool programs. You need to know type of activities offered, prices, locations, dates… before to take a decision.
– Spend time talking with your child/children about the offer and try to DECIDE TOGETHER the activity/activities. It is very important for the child to participate in these kind of decisions that affect him/her directly. You also should take into consideration your own needs (sometimes kids don’t understand this point but you have to talk about it because both needs, theirs and yours, are important!).
– There are lots of activities but also many years to enjoy them so keep in mind your CHILD’S AGE, SKILLS and NEEDS to be sure she/he is going to enjoy and take advantage of the activity.
– Do NOT “OVER-SCHEDULE” their agenda! No more than three afternoon activities and no more than two hours after they have finished their regular school day. They want and need to spend time with you! And please… Friday afternoons should be free for them…and for you!!!!
– If your kid is going to have more than one activity, COMBINE them! Sports, cultural enrichment, academic support, arts, recreation… Don’t forget that afterschool programs support their cognitive, social, physical and emotional development.
